Plimmer buys the ship and takes it to Lambton beach for conversion to a bond store and shop

1851

James Smiths opens in a counting house off the ship and Plimmer commences wharf building

1852

First harbour infilling started

1854

Plimmer extends wharf

1855

Earthquake - ship righted and consolidated with fill
Provincial Council starts infilling on a large-scale
Plimmer continues reclaiming around the ship wharf.
By now the ship is landlocked and timbers have been added to its west side (Lambton Quay)

1860

Paving may have gone in about now - certainly pre 1884

1861

Building 1 constructed.
Plimmer mortgages the wharf/ship site

1862

The ship/ark is leased to a ship chandler and sail maker

1863

The Plimmer/Reeves wharf becomes a legal landing place
Bank of New Zealand (BNZ) purchases part of the site

1873-4

Building 1 is modified

1878

Ship gains a building facade

1883-4

Building 3 is constructed and the ship is cut down and covered with fill

1899

The first building 1 is demolished, timbers were exposed

1899

Construction of the new Building 1 begins

1903

Customhouse Quay water and sewer pipes cut the sternpost.
Building 4 is built

Building 2 is built

1975

Wellington City Council acquires all four buildings

BNZ Wellington branch moves out

Archaeological investigation starts
